Rushmore from the Garamond and printed on a Washington press by Arthur Rushmore printed on handmade gray tinted Charles I paper in 75 numbered copies. With a contemporary silhouette portrait of Washington as frontispiece. Vignette printed in orange. Edges slightly worn. This is no. 2 of the 75. First-class private printing by Arthur W. Rushmore (1883-1955), long-time head of design for the major American publishing house Harper Bros. Edna, who took care of the beautiful, extensive typesetting, was his wife. The Golden Hind Press often supplied the marbled paper itself, which in this case is beautifully dotted with gold. Washington (1732-1799) was extensively commemorated two hundred years after his birth. General Lee (1756-1818) was one of his comrades in arms.
