And indeed, New Zealand, the Country and the People was published by Laurie in 1912. 'Dr. Herz's book would be an excellent one for encouraging emigration, and perhaps he can use his influence with the New Zealand Emigration Office to purchase part of the edition'. Thomas Werner Laurie, born from a Scots father and a German mother, published countless daring, modern and/or Great World Books between 1904 and 1944: Oscar Wilde, Joseph Conrad, Upton Sinclair, Edward Carpenter, Yeats and others.
