ELLSON, HAL - Duke

Title: Duke
Description: New York, Scribners. 1949, First Edition. Hardcover. Book, 8vo. xiv, 170pp. Navy-blue boards with silver lettering to spine. Pictorial unclipped ($2.75) dustjacket in excellent condition considering its susceptibility, with only minor shelf-wear and nicks to top and bottom of spine. Scribner 'A' and seal on the copyright page indicating true first edition. Author's classic first book, whose theme dealing with big-city teenagers and juvenile delinquency, set a trend in post-war America. "A novel of teen-age gangsters that will both shock and awaken you.. If you are squeamish, this novel is not for you." Includes the now humorous, "Partial Glossary of Gang Terminology" for the uninitiated. The cover design is itself a great piece of period art. Fine/Very Good.
