Title: François Diday 1802-1877 : Fondateur de L'école Suisse de Paysage : Contribution à L'Histoire de L'Art Du Xixme Siècle

Several glued printed images present in book as well. "Diday's first voyage to the Bernese Oberland dates back to 1827. The catalog of the exhibition of May 1828 mentions among Diday's shipments a "Giessbach", a small painting that must have been painted according to a sketch made on site the previous year. The first document of some importance of this period is a notebook of drawings and watercolors from 1829: it testifies to a trip to Bern, Thun, Spiez, Mei-ringen, Rosenlaui, Grande Scheidegg and Grindelwald, a classic tour of the travelers of the time. Diday, in the mountains, still painted little with oil; he made many annotated sketches for color and light, looking for a way to express himself. In 1829 he exhibited the Chapel of Tell and the Abbey of Interlaken, in 1830 a Chalet in the Alps and a Site at the Grimsel, in 1832 a view of the Lake and the mountains of Brienz. These are isolated works, accompanying in the exhibitions other paintings, more numerous, representing sites of the Geneva region. Diday will return to the Bernese Oberland for several years in a row before grasping the new subject he has imposed upon himself. He will have to make persistent efforts before he can show paintings to the public as he hears theml. But he is there, moved and burning, in the middle of these characteristic landscapes of Switzerland that he wants to conquer with the art of painting." - translated section from the book. Good, some signs of wear around edges of cover, pages in excellent condition .
