Title: Chelsea and Other English Porcelain, Pottery, and Enamel in the Irwin Untermyer Collection
Description: Cambridge, Massachusetts, The Metropolitan Museum of Art / Harvard University Press, 1957. Hardcover. Light blue and white paper boards with gilt decoration on front cover, with dark green-blue cloth spine, red title block with gilt letters on spine, light green & color illus. 286 pp. 146 BW and color plates. "Presents an unsurpassed pictorial record of the origins and development of eighteenth-century English ceramics. Its 47 pages of color and 100 pages of black-and-white reproductions illustrate objects in the Irwin Untermyer Collection in New York. These have been assembled from various parts of the world over a period of many years and constitute a wide range of distinguished examples from the principal English ceramic factories. Each object is illustrated and described and, whenever appropriate, comments have been added relating to origins, technical characteristics and stylistic qualities. The successive marks used at Chelsea make possible the determination of a basic chronology by means of which can be traced the transition from early simplicity to the more elaborate later forms. A similar evolution is reflected in the products of Bow, Derby, Worcester and other English factories." (dj). VG+/G: The book is in excellent condition, with clean pages and solid binding. The dust jacket is torn at the top of the spine. It removes 'Chelsea' from the spine, but does not affect any text on the front cover.
