Description: Princeton, NJ, Princeton Architectural Press, 1987. Two casebound black books inside a black slipcover. There is a glued on plate on the front of the slipcover. The books each have a black dust jacket with the title in gilt down the spine and across the front. The book covers are made from black cloth and also have gilted text on the front cover and down the spine. The headbands are black and yellow. The front and back free and pasted end pages of Volume One are a heavy black paper. Pages: Volume One- (4), 1-45, (~520), (30). Volume Two- (~60). Books have a total of more than three hundred plates. Volume one has a pocket on the back pasted end page containing a loose fold-out map and a list of the plates. Volume two has many foldout illustrations. Both volumes' illustrations are mostly in black-and-white. This work is itself a monument of Egypt. It consists chiefly of 419 copper engravings of Egypt's monuments made by and for Napoleon's ill-fated Egyptian campaign (1798-1801) in superb reproductions. VG+/VG+: The volumes are in excellent condition. Clean pages and tight binding. The slipcover is sturdy with only a little wear on the bottom edges.
