In the shadow of the friend. Working materials by Franz Pforr in the estate of Ludwig Vogels. "Drawings by Franz Pforr, painter of German RomanticismWhen Franz Pforr (1788-1812) died at the age of just 24, he left behind only a small body of work. Nevertheless, he was always considered one of the most important painters of German Romanticism. With his friends Friedrich Overbeck (1789-1869), Joseph Wintergerst (1783-1867), Joseph Sutter (1781-1866), Ludwig Vogel (1788-1879) and Johann Konrad Hottinger (1788-1827) he founded a friendship group in 1808 - on Vogel's twentieth birthday - which was called the 'Lukasbund' from 1809 onwards. Excluded from the Vienna Academy, Pforr, Overbeck, Hottinger and Vogel went to Rome, where they lived and worked together. In this study, Heinrich Thommen shows that Pforr's oeuvre was more extensive than previously thought. In 2005, he discovered working materials in Ludwig Vogel's estate that could not have come from the Zurich painter himself: those from his 'brother Luke' Pf. VG+ .
