Johann Friedrich Cotta (1764--1832) is the most important publisher of the Goethe era. In just a few years he made his publishing house, with authors such as Goethe, Schiller, Hölderlin, Jean Paul, Herder, Varnhagen von Ense, Alexander von Humboldt, Fichte, Schelling and Hegel, the leading publisher of German "national literature" and the largest general publisher of his time. For the first time, the development of the Cotta publishing house under his leadership is now being documented in a bibliography. A total of 2,246 entries list every edition or print run of a work published by Cotta. The bibliography was awarded an "Honourable Mention" in 2006 by the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB) on the occasion of the quadrennial award of the ILAB Prize for Bibliography. The Cotta publishing bibliography also received the 10th ANTIQUARIA Prize for Book Culture 2004. Retailed at $750. VG+/VG+ .
