Description: 1835. Brown ish faded purple stamped cloth with applied paper label on upper spine. Spine title, on printed paper label: "Visit to the vineyards of Spain and France by Busby." Additional faded and deteriorated ancient label at base of spine with no letters apparent. No ffep, inked name on inside front pastedown. x [i.e. xi], [2], 14-166, [2] pp. ads at rear. A very scarce New York reprint of this title, originally published in London in 1834. The first American edition. There is an error in the pagination with page xi labelled as x. FIRST AMERICAN, EDITION, 3rd overall, adapted slightly from the first edition published in Sydney in 1833 under the title Journal of a tour through some of the vineyards of Spain and France (Sydney: 1833). The second, first London, edition (again slightly revised) was published in London in 1834. Cf. Ferguson II, 1635 & 1750 (1833 and 1834 editions). Name of "J. Mankin" boldly inked inside the front cover. Good. Spine label partly (minorly) deteriorated with loss. Stain on front cover, apparently very vintage wine spillage, not very detracting because of the intricate stamped design. Cloth cover corners and edges are crisp and solid, very little wear apparent. Typical browning and foxing to majority of sheets.
