Title: The Photographic World (Volume 2, Issues 1-12)
Description: Philadelphia, Benerman & Wilson, 1872. Hardcover. 1/2 leather front cover, lacks spine and rear cover. Title-page with facing albumen portrait (barely connected still to front cover and ffep), vii (1), 382 pp (see comments). Exceedingly rare in any condition. The first few leaves, including the title-page, are loose. Complete with the exception of the sheets for pages 299-302 and the final sheet 383/384. Also lacks the albumen portrait for the September issue, and the December portrait has been installed as the frontis (barely hanging on to the detached front cover). The text block is tender and needs repair to tighten it up, and most all the albumen photos (and their associated tissue guards) are loose. Each issue is 32 pages in length, and each issue is adorned with informative woodcuts. Each photo and most monthly issue title-sheets have the oval stamp of the Mercantile Library on them, most all the albumen have some small portion of this stamp included within the image surface. Though present in roughly 26 institutions in whole or in part, copies very seldom appear for sale, no copies found in auction records. Fair only. Exlibrary (Mercantile Library, NYC) as well as inkstamp of another previous owner inside front cover. See comments for further condition notes.
