Title: Choix Dessins & Articles Extraits Du Musee Philipon
Description: Paris, Ad. Delahays, 1842. Paperback. Green lithographed covers. FFEP followed by 60 sheets each profusely illustrated. Musee Philipon was published for a short period, from 1842 to 1843, by Charles Philipon. 48 issues were printed in total between 2 volumes. His brother-in-law was Gabriel Aubert, who became his publisher or co-publisher. Philipon began publishing caricature-themed publications in 1829 and worked with many of the great caricaturists of France, including Daumier, Gavarni, Grandville, Travies, Cham and eventually Dore. The full title of the publication from which these extracts were taken was Musée ou Magasin Comique de Philipon; it contained picture stories by Cham, Daumier, Dollet, Eustache, Gavarni, Grandville and Vernier. The famed pastoral painter Charles Jacque also contributed. The publication was discontinued with number 48 and replaced by a new publication, La Lanterne magique d'Aubert. (Charles Philipon's Comic Papers, by John Adcock) This publication offered is not found in OCLC or Worldcat. It is comprised of 4-page (extracts or re-printings) of 11 issues and (apparently) two 8-page extracts or re-printings of two issues. The images are plentiful and vibrant. One issue (or extract) is printed in red ink. Good+, soiling to covers and first 25 sheets or so are dog-eared in the upper right corner .
