Title: George Desvalličres Et la Grande Guerre
Description: paris, Somogy, 2013. Hardcover. Color illustrated cloth boards. Color illustrated dj. 183 p.: Ill. in black and col. cards, facsim. Abstract: Painter until almost 90 years old, George Desvalličres (1861-1950) went through the three wars of 1870, 1914 and 1940. He was 53 when, during the First World War, he left as a reserve officer in Alsace to defend the Vosges barrier. He is then an artist recognized in the various Parisian painting salons where he has exhibited for twenty years. Founder, vice-president and president of the Salon d'Automne, he reveals himself as a discoverer of talents and honors wild beasts, cubists and decorative artists. But in this summer of 1914, a new fate awaits him: battalion commander, he will lead the men into battle, which will lastingly transform his life as a painter. He centers his post-war works around the theme of the Sacrifice of the Hairy it parallels the Sacrifice of Christ. While he composed many paintings directly linked to the war and the loss of his son, impressive sets on this theme struck public opinion at the time. VG Still in shrinkwrap .
