All volumes paginated seperately. (7 Volumes). From the libraries of Joseph Hodges Choate (1832-1917) and his daughter Mabel Choate (1870-1958). Joseph was an American lawyer and diplimat known for serving as UK ambassador under Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt, playing a rule in the Kansas prohibition and Chinese exclusion cases, and playing a role in the founding of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, while Mabel was an accomplished horticulturist, traveller, preservationist, and art collector. The book features plates depicting architecture and interior decoration from excavated buildings in Pompeii and Herculaneum. Includes explanatory text by L. Barre.
