"Mr. Hamilton MacCarthy has given lectures at the Social Science Congress held at Cheltenham, England, in 1878, and at Edinburgh, 1885, and at the Society for the Fine Arts, London, Eng. in 1882. Mr. MacCarthy's reputation as a Sculptor was made in England, at the Royal Academy and principal art centres, and his works are in the possession of Royalty. In Canada he is best known by his memorial statues of the late Col. Williams at Port Hope, late Dr. Ryerson and the Rt. Hon. Sir John A. Macdonald, in the Queen's Park, Toronto."- inside front cover.
