Brinckmann, A.E. - Barock-Bozzetti : Italienische Bildhauer = Italian Sculptors (Vols. 1 and 2)

Title: Barock-Bozzetti : Italienische Bildhauer = Italian Sculptors (Vols. 1 and 2)
Description: Frankfurt am Main, Frankfurter Verlags-Anstalt A.-G, 1923. German-English. Hardcover. Both volumes: Blue marbled paper/boards. Vellum spine with gilt lettering. Vol. 1: 167 pp.; 72 bw plates and 43 bw figures. Vol. 2: 127 pp.; 60 bw plates and 37 bw figures. TEG. Heavy at 6 pounds and will require extra postage. Volume 1 was published in 1923 and Volume 2 in 1924. Although each can stand alone, the volumes are better viewed together, as the introduction to Volume 2 states, "General explanations between the Italian bozzetto and sculpture are made unnecessary by referring to the introduction in the beginning of the first volume..Also in the..Volume 1, I have tried to show not only the position which the bozzetto takes in the development of the work of art itself, but also to consider small bronze-works and imitations depending upon it." Bozzetti are preliminary works for sculptures and are important for knowledge of Baroque art. After each execution, a bozzetto was often given to an artistically-insignificant assistant. In addition to the work of Italian artists, works of some Dutch, French and German sculptors of the baroque period are also covered in these volumes. A lovely set, likely rarely read. With parallel text, German/English. Both volumes VG+ internally but with age soiling to spines and light age toning to cover edges. Faint age toning to page margins.
