Title: Fantastic Art, Dada, Surrealism
Description: NY, Museum of Modern Art, 1936. First edition. Hardcover. Green cloth. 294 pp. 6 color, 240+ bw plates. A wonderful catalogue, with over 200 bw plates depicting Surrealist and Fantastic art from the 16th century on forward, with the emphasis on the 20th century. This is the second, revised edition printed in July, 1937. Includes essays by Alfred H. Barr, Georges Hugnet, a brief chronology of the Dada and Surrealist movements, bibliography, catalogue of the exhibition, etc. One of the seminal MOMA exhibtions. The 1947 edition has changed in a few respects. It lists only those pictures which were illustrated, rather than the entire exhibition catalogue. The plates in the historical section have been rearranged. There are six additional color plates and a few extra black and white plates as well. Good, exArtLibrary copy with marks at base of spine, bookplate inside front cover, cardpocket at rear. Covers are somewhat soiled, and the book appears seldom used but has age-toning to the pages .
