A flyer for a benefit disco drag ball event, raising money for AIDS awareness and the nonprofit River Fund West. Held at the Jewel's Catch-One, a noted dance club in Los Angeles. It was considered to be the longest running Black gay dance bar, originally opening in 1973, and almost closing in 2015, when new management took over and briefly renamed it the Union. Founded by Jewel Thais-Williams, who opened it after experiencing racism and discrimination at other bars in Los Angeles because she was Black and female. After it opened it hosted many famous performers and became popular as a meeting place. A 1993 documentary was filmed about the owner and the club, titled Jewel and the Catch. VERY GOOD condition. Minor wrinkling at the corners. Very Good .
