Author: Tucker, A.N. Title: Primitive Tribal Music and Dancing in the Southern Sudan (Africa) at Social and Ceremonial Gatherings
Description: London, William Reeves, Bookseller, presumed Publisher. Cloth. no date, perhaps 1960s based on OCLC records. Orange cloth in unclipped jacket. 57 pp. plus 48 pages of ads in the rear. Black and white photographs throughout. A chronicle of music, songs and dances practiced by the Nilotic and the Nilo-Hamitic tribes in the region of Southern Sudan. The author documented these between 1929 and 1931, while in Sudan to help with writing grammars and dictionaries. Basic melodies are printed in musical notation, with the author describing the music and dances from observation and notes, while also conceding a pure scientific approach was not feasible. The photos, taken by the author, document members of various tribes either posing or during the performance of ceremonies. GOOD condition. Light fading and edgewear to the jacket, with an old price in pencil on the rear panel. Just a hint of wear to the covers. Unfortunately, along with the previous owner's name in the interior, scattered sentences throughout the book are underlined, with a few stray notes in the margins. Good/Good.
