East Village Other was an underground newspaper from New York (duh), known for its early embrace of the counterculture and counterculture aesthetics, often using absurdist pieces to provide social commentary. As an early proponent of the underground comix movement, EVO published work by R. Crumb, Trina Robbins (neither in this issue) and others, as well as publishing a paper devoted to comix. This issue with a front cover depicting Timothy Leary behind bars, with a small blurb about his plight that seeks to raise funds, and is undersigned by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Allen Ginsberg, Terence (Kayo) Hallinan and James Coburn. Interior features an interview with James Baldwin, in which he talks a fair amount about Huey Newton; a full page review of a Stooges concert, including an Iggy Pop photo, etc. GOOD condition. Horizontal fold crease present. Moderate toning. Paper a bit brittle. Mailing label present. Good .
