Description: No Place, No Publisher, 1957. Wraps. Presumed published in Kabinda in now present day Democratic Republic of Congo: 1957. Printed wraps. Stapled along the left edge. 12 pp. With a few drawings. Text in French and perhaps Niger-Congo. A single issue of what appears to be a colonial journal/magazine that was perhaps printed by missionaries or the Belgian colonial government. Articles are written in French as well as Niger-Congo, with pieces on diseases/sicknesses and well-being; news from Kabinda (apparently discussing the establishment of a mission in the area); a socio-economic program to be undertaken in Africa that would benefit the farmers of the Congo region; brief instruction on how to enroll in the Colonial School as well as the police force; an anti-alcohol piece with cartoon style illustrations that depicts the ills of alcohol; and ,a piece in Niger-Congo that appears, by the illustrations to discuss parenthood/fatherhood and perhaps responsibility. The Democratic Republic of Congo, at the time of this publication, was still a colony of Belgium, although it had begun to move toward independence, both through local efforts at autonomy and incremental steps taken by the Belgian government. The Democratic Republic of Congo gained its independence in 1960. GOOD condition, ex-library with two stamps on the front cover, as well as a library form stapled to the inside front cover. Minor general fading and a few creases. Minor soiling. Moderate small tears along the extremities, mostly to the fore edge, with a few chips and some associated creasing. Minor pencil marking to the front cover. Interior faded but clean. Good .
