Weegee's work shines a light on the contrasts of urban life, revealing the depths of its socio-economic layers with an unflinching eye. Arthur Fellig, professionally known as Weegee, was a pioneering American photographer renowned for his vivid street photography in New York City. Born in 1899 in what is now Ukraine, he immigrated to the U. S. In 1909, settling in New York's Lower East Side. The book was formerly part of the esteemed photography collection of Chris Steele-Perkins, a distinguished member of Magnum Photos.
