Charles Oppenheimer (1876-1961) was born in Manchester to a Scottish mother, and after studying at Manchester School of Art under Walter Crane and Richard Willis and in Italy, he moved to Kirkcudbright in 1908 where he spent over half a century recording the local natural and built environment, including a number of large canvases depicting the construction of the dams for the Galloway Power scheme in the early 1930s. His railway posters also brought his work to the attention of the public at large. A central figure in the artistic and wider community, he helped establish the Dumfries and Galloway Fine Art Society, and in 1934 he was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Academy. ; Quarto; 128 pages; Signed by Author.
