Born Benjamin Obadiah Iqbal Zephaniah in Handsworth, Birmingham, to Caribbean parents, he left school at 13 due to dyslexia and later moved to London at 22 to pursue poetry. His first collection, Pen Rhythm (1980) , marked the beginning of a prolific career. Zephaniah's work often addressed themes of racism, animal rights, and political activism, reflecting his Rastafarian beliefs and dedication to various causes. He was also a passionate advocate for veganism and declined an OBE in 2003, citing its association with the British Empire's history of slavery. As an actor, he was known for his role as Jeremiah Jesus in the BBC series Peaky Blinders. Zephaniah passed away at the age of 65 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.. Good .
