Description: Darmstadt: Eduard Roether Verlag, 1971. Original cloth. 29.4 x 22.4 x 1.8 cms; Rudolf Alexander Agricola (1912–1990) was a German sculptor renowned for figurative works that often depicted the human form with classical elegance. Born on 3 April 1912 in Moscow, he grew up in Kassel, Germany. Agricola began his artistic education in 1932 under Gerhard Marcks in Halle, continuing his studies from 1933 at the Städel Institute in Frankfurt am Main with Professor Richard Scheibe. A 1934 study trip to Greece strongly influenced his appreciation of classical art. By 1937, he had moved to Berlin as a master student of Scheibe, earning several awards before the end of World War II. After the war, Agricola worked as a freelance artist in Kronberg im Taunus. His sculptures, influenced by artists such as Georg Kolbe and Aristide Maillol, are characterised by their clarity and simplicity, often featuring the human figure in natural poses. In 1948, he received the Cornelius Prize from the city of Düsseldorf. Notable works include Junge Frau (1939) , Amazone (1940) , and Tanzende (1944) , the latter now housed at the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale). Agricola passed away on 21 June 1990 in Königstein im Taunus, leaving a lasting legacy through his contributions to German sculpture, with several works still displayed in public spaces and collections..
