He is best known for his collection of writings titled "Vies des dames galantes" (Lives of Gallant Ladies) , a colourful and often scandalous portrayal of the lives and romantic intrigues of notable women of the French court. He also authored "Vies des hommes illustres et grands capitaines étrangers et français" (Lives of Illustrious Men and Great Foreign and French Captains) , chronicling military leaders and historical figures of his time. Brantôme's lively, anecdotal style offers a vivid snapshot of the courtly culture and societal attitudes of late Renaissance France.. Good with no dust jacket .
