Originally a teacher and Jacobin radical, Fouché played a key part in the Reign of Terror before switching allegiances as tides turned. He became infamous for his ruthless intelligence network and ability to navigate shifting political regimes—from Robespierre to Napoleon, and later the restored Bourbon monarchy. Made Duke of Otranto by Napoleon, Fouché is remembered as a brilliant, manipulative figure whose loyalty was always to self-preservation and power above all else.. Good with no dust jacket .
