Born into a Protestant family, he witnessed early trauma with the execution of his father’s associates and the brutal religious conflict that shaped his worldview. A close companion of Henri of Navarre—later King Henri IV—d’Aubigné served as both a military aide and a political advisor, though he grew disillusioned when Henri converted to Catholicism to secure the throne. As a writer, d’Aubigné produced powerful, impassioned works, most notably Les Tragiques, a long, searing epic poem chronicling the sufferings of Protestants, and the Histoire Universelle, a partisan history of the wars that was eventually banned in France. His legacy is marked by both his literary intensity and his unwavering moral stance. Ironically, his granddaughter Françoise d’Aubigné would later become the Marquise de Maintenon and the wife of Louis XIV, a king notorious for persecuting Protestants.. Very Good- with no dust jacket .
