He earned his Ph. D. From Cornell University and later taught at the University of Minnesota, where he served as a professor of history for many years. Willson’s most influential work is King James VI and I (1956) , a comprehensive and balanced biography that helped reassess the reputation of the monarch often overshadowed by his successor, Charles I. Willson portrayed James as an intelligent and complex figure navigating the challenges of early modern kingship, religious conflict, and political union between England and Scotland. He also co-authored, with Stuart E. Prall, the widely used textbook A History of England, which has educated generations of students on British history. Willson's scholarship is marked by clarity, thorough research, and a deep understanding of political and constitutional developments in early modern Britain.. Very Good- with no dust jacket .
