He served as a captain in the 8th Battalion of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry during World War I, where he was mentioned in dispatches and awarded the Military Cross for his service. Greig's literary career, though brief, was marked by the creation of Inspector John Swinton, a young and astute detective of Scotland Yard. Swinton featured in five novels published between 1930 and 1932, including The King's Club Murder (1930) , The Tragedy of the Chinese Mine (1930) , Murder in Lintercombe (1931) , Baxter's Second Death (1932) , and The Case of the Rich Woman (1932). These works were later compiled into The Inspector Swinton Murder Omnibus in 1934.Despite the initial popularity of his novels, Greig's works have become rare and are seldom reprinted, making them sought-after items for collectors of classic detective fiction..
