Born into a prominent Baghdad family—his father served as the city's mayor during the late Ottoman period—Chadirji played a significant role in Iraq's political landscape. He founded and led the National Democratic Party and served multiple terms in parliament from the 1920s through the 1950s. Beyond his political career, Chadirji was an avid photographer. His extensive collection of photographs, taken between the 1920s and 1940s, provides invaluable insights into the social life, architecture, and cultural practices of Iraq during a transformative period. This collection, encompassing approximately 100,000 negatives and images, is now housed at the Aga Khan Documentation Center at MIT, serving as a vital resource for understanding the region's history. Chadirji's legacy extends through his family; his son, Rifat Chadirji, became one of Iraq's most renowned modern architects. Together, their contributions have left an indelible mark on Iraq's cultural and architectural heritage.; Signed by Author. Good+ in Good dust jacket .
