After graduating from the Art Department of Nihon University in 1953, Toru traveled to the United States, where he spent seven years introducing and teaching Shiatsu therapy. Upon returning to Japan, he became the assistant director of the Japan Shiatsu College, playing a significant role in promoting and internationalizing Shiatsu therapy. Toru Namikoshi has authored several influential books on Shiatsu, including "The Complete Book of Shiatsu Therapy: Health and Vitality at Your Fingertips," contributing to the global understanding and practice of this therapeutic art..
