Born in Meissen, Saxony, he studied medicine at the University of Leipzig and later earned his medical degree in 1779. Dissatisfied with the medical practices of his time, he sought gentler and more effective treatments. His pivotal discovery came while experimenting with quinine, which led him to formulate the principle of similia similibus curentur ("like cures like"). This became the foundation of homeopathy, a system based on the idea that highly diluted substances can stimulate the body's self-healing mechanisms. Hahnemann introduced the method of potentization, in which substances are repeatedly diluted and shaken to enhance their therapeutic effects while minimizing toxicity. His seminal work, The Organon of the Healing Art, outlined homeopathic principles and treatments. Despite skepticism from mainstream medicine, homeopathy gained a significant following and remains practiced worldwide. Hahnemann spent his later years in Paris, where he continued to refine his methods and treat patients until his death in 1843.. Good with no dust jacket .
