After completing her education at the School for Social Work in Amsterdam, Anne briefly worked in child protection before transitioning to journalism. In 1938, she became the first female editor at the Catholic daily newspaper De Tijd, where she managed the women's page and remained until her retirement in 1970. Post-retirement, Anne continued to contribute to De Tijd, collaborating with her colleague and friend, Heleen Swildens, on a weekly women's page featuring interviews and reports from both domestic and international perspectives. Together, they authored several books in letter form about aging, including "M'n bril in de ijskast" (1987) , "Een vinger in de pap" (1989) , and "Verlengd bestaan" (1995) , which candidly addressed the daily experiences of growing older and achieved significant success. Heleen Swildens was a Dutch journalist and author. She collaborated extensively with Anne Biegel, particularly after Biegel's retirement, co-authoring books that explored the intricacies of aging through personal correspondence. Their joint works, such as "M'n bril in de ijskast," "Een vinger in de pap," and "Verlengd bestaan," offered readers an intimate look into the daily realities of growing older, resonating with a broad audience and achieving notable success..
