Born to a British mother and a Texan father, she spent much of her childhood in Barripper, Cornwall, England, where she developed an early interest in the arts. As a teenager, she traveled independently across Europe and attended high school at the Gymnasium Juvenaat in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands, becoming fluent in Dutch. In 2004, Mainon was diagnosed with breast cancer. During her treatment, she collaborated with James Ursini to author The Modern Amazons: Warrior Women On-Screen, exploring the portrayal of warrior women in cinema. She continued her literary pursuits with works such as Cinema of Obsession: Erotic Fixation and Love Gone Wrong in the Movies and The Femme Fatale: Cinema's Most Unforgettable Lethal Ladies. Mainon also ventured into filmmaking, producing behind-the-scenes content for fashion brands and working on a documentary titled Have Gun, Will Travel with Aukai "Aqil" Collins. Despite recurring health challenges, she remained active in her creative endeavors until her passing in 2012. James Ursini (born May 10, 1947) is an American writer, educator, and film historian specializing in film noir. He earned his master's degree in Theater Arts and a doctorate in Film from UCLA in 1975. Ursini has authored and edited over a dozen books, often collaborating with Alain Silver. Their joint works include The Noir Style, the Film Noir Reader series, and director studies on figures such as David Lean and Robert Aldrich. In partnership with Dominique Mainon, Ursini co-authored The Modern Amazons: Warrior Women On-Screen and Cinema of Obsession: Erotic Fixation and Love Gone Wrong in the Movies. Beyond writing, Ursini has contributed to numerous DVD commentaries for classic films and lectures on filmmaking at UCLA and other institutions in the Los Angeles area.. Fine with no dust jacket .
