Slight wear to spine, cover and corners. ; 80 pages; Peter Redgrove (1932–2003) was an English poet, novelist, and playwright celebrated for his imaginative and sensuous engagement with the natural world, psychology, and mysticism. Born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, he studied Natural Sciences at Queens' College, Cambridge, where he co-founded the literary magazine Delta and became associated with poets such as Ted Hughes and Philip Hobsbaum. Redgrove was a key figure in 'The Group', a collective of poets who met to discuss and critique each other's work. His poetry is noted for its rich language and exploration of themes such as transformation, sexuality, and the subconscious. Redgrove's scientific background informed his literary work, blending empirical observation with mythic and psychological elements. He published numerous poetry collections, including The Collector (1959) , The Force (1966) , and Dr. Faust’s Sea-Spiral Spirit (1972). His later works, such as The Laborators (1993) , reflect his continued interest in the interplay between science and poetry. In collaboration with his second wife, poet Penelope Shuttle, Redgrove co-authored prose works like The Wise Wound (1978) and Alchemy for Women (1995) , which delve into feminine psychology and the menstrual cycle. Redgrove held academic positions at institutions including the University at Buffalo and the University of Leeds, where he served as Gregory Fellow in Poetry. He was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1996. Redgrove passed away in Falmouth, Cornwall, leaving behind a legacy of work that continues to influence contemporary poetry..
