Title: The Norwich Mercury (September 24, 1757)
Description: William Chase, 1757. 1st Edition. 0 pp. No Binding. Very good, 4 pages created from one folded sheet, with only mild wear to edges. A partial stamp appears in the lower right-hand corner of the first page. There are a few x's in the margins and other brief notations. Every word is readable. A vivid picture of life in Norwich / Norfolk, England with news from London and "Foreign News" on the first page. Auctions and items or services for sale are listed on the back page. This would be an excellent primary source to show students of English and American history daily life in mid-eighteenth century England. Interesting items like news of a new lottery in London "for the ensuing Year has been laid before the Lords of the Treasury and several Members of Parliament, which meets with universal Approbation". (Interesting for English teachers to show students how words were capitalized for emphasis.) Also on the front page is "Part of a Speech made in a Country Market-place to some Persons that were dissatisfied with the Militia Bill". Very Good.
