Each volume is preserved in an archival plastic sleeve. This was "A Monthly Journal, Devoted to Southern Agriculture" and were quite popular, especially across the South. The nine issues (Numbers 3-12) cover a variety of agricultural topics: "On the Principles of Artificial Manuring", "Use of Lime as a Fertilizer", "Study the Soil-- Magnesia" and "Rotation of Crops". Another popular topic is animal husbandry: "South Down Sheep" and "The New Leicester Ram" (both illustrated with beautiful engravings. Also covered is architecture on the plantation/farm under the subject of "Rural Architecture" with subjects like the English cottage, an article printed with a fine engraving. Also covered are "New and Improved Plows". among other instruments. As to be expected, slavery is a topic as well with the rare article on the state of "typhoid pneumonia" plague among the enslaved. Named articles are just a sampling of all that is covered in these 10 issues. They gives us, nearly 200 years later, a clearer picture of everyday life on the Southern plantation and farm.
