Displayed in a Series of Views: or Edinburgh in the Nineteenth Century: Exhibiting the Whole of the New Buildings, Modern Improvements, Antiquities and Picturesque Scenery, of the Scottish Metropolis and Its Environs, from Original Drawings by Mr. Thomas H. Shepherd. With Historical, Topographical, and Critical Illustrations. Shepherd's volume was published with the intention of being bound with a re-issue of John Preston Neale's engraving's issued under the title "Scotland Illustrated" but, at least in this copy, issued without a title-page. In all, there are 88 engravings containing two or more views plus substantial textual material. Normally, Shepherd's book is found without the addition of the Neale engravings and text as was originally intended. There are some that prefer the Jones re-issue of the Neale drawings in part because there are additional views not included in the original 1819 edition of Neale. All of the engravings in this volume are in near fine or fine condition. Both Shepherd and Neale are genuine highspots. VG.
