Defects in the paper manufacture, several holes are in this copy, but only one partially obscures Chase's opinion. His opinion was delivered in the U.S. Circuit Court in Raleigh, North Carolina in the case of Shortridge, et al v. Macon. Chase held that the confiscation and sequestration acts of the Confederacy did not relieve Southern debtors.
