Much more interesting than many of the collective biographical / portrait volumes of the period because of the breadth of the individuals included, which has allowed the author and artist to include many important, but often ignored, persons, such as George Peabody, Joel Barlow, Peter Cooper, Elisha Kane, William Prescott, and Roger Taney. The collection of steel engravings is well-executed. Near Fine.
