Author: Title: The Secret Oath and a Fresh Translation of the Secret Instructions of the Order of the Jesuits, with a Slight Sketch of the Society
Description: London, Seeley, Burnside, and Seeley, 1848. 22nd thousand. Paperback. 80p. A small, thread-bound booklet in a blue cloth wrapper. Very good condition. The cloth is stained and lightly frayed; early owner's signature on the front. Light foxing inside covers and on first and last leaves, but otherwise clean and tight. Mid-19th century British edition of the Monita Secreta, an anti-Jesuit document outlining the methods by which the Society of Jesus can acquire wealth and power, such as by exploiting rich widows. First published in 1615, the document has long been regarded as a libelous fabrication, similar to the anti-Semitic Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Very Good .
