Covers are heavily scuffed and spine labels have chipped off. Old stamps on blank front endpapers. Some pages coming loose; all pages foxed with age. Volume 3's pages are dampstained. The Family Record section has been filled out by an early owner. The front cover of volume 5 is cracking off and has some tape repair at the top of the hinge. A much-used but readable set, covering Genesis through Revelation. Each volume measures approx. 11" x 7.5" and is illustrated with occasional black and white plates. William Jenks (1794-1866) was a Congregational clergyman and scholar from Massachusetts. This biblical commentary is one of his major works, using the Authorized King James Version with Scott's marginal references, Matthew Henry's commentary, and notes from Doddridge, Gill, and numerous other Scripture scholars.
