Owners' inscription and stamp on front endpaper. Light "vintage" smell inside, but otherwise, text clean and binding tight. Miner Searle Bates (1897-1978) was an American missionary-professor in China who witnessed the Rape of Nanking. After years of teaching at the University of Nanking, he returned to the U.S. and taught at the Union Theological Seminary. Very Good .
