Edges of boards rubbed, most heavily at the corners. Bottom of spine is quite worn; a few small slits and nicks in the cloth further up the spine. Dampstaining at top and bottom edges, seeping into the gutter and causing a few pages to start tearing. However, the pages remain securely enough attached for reading purposes and, apart from some age-toning, are clean. The first American edition of this Babar the Elephant book, now regarded as controversial due to its depiction of African natives. This is the true first American printing; this title is not listed on the copyright page under "Other Babar Books." Measures approx. 14.5" x 10.25. Good .
