It was the most successful of several popular magazines published by the Religious Tract Society, which produced Christian literature for a wide audience. Each issue mixed multiple genres of fiction and factual stories, historical and topical. This volume includes an article on "The Governess in Fiction," a series on "Home Life in the Olden Time - Elizabethan Period," an article on "Slavery and the Slave Trade," and installments of " The Last of the Macallisters" by Amelia Barr.
