Rev. John Cumming - Lectures on Romanism, Being Illustrations and Refutations of the Errors of Romanism and Tractarianism

Title: Lectures on Romanism, Being Illustrations and Refutations of the Errors of Romanism and Tractarianism
Description: Boston, John P. Jewett and Company, 1854. Hardcover. 728p. A brown cloth hardcover book in good condition. Edges worn and corners slightly bumped; cloth cracked along rear outer hinge, although inner hinge is secure and the covers and all pages remain attached. Former owner inscription on front endpaper. Text clean and binding tight. Lectures by a controversial anti-Catholic preacher from the Church of Scotland. In this book he denounces not only Roman Catholicism but also Tractarianism, or the thinking of the Oxford Movement. The Oxford Movement was an attempt by Anglican church members to revisit the apostolic roots and traditional liturgies of the Anglican Church, which align significantly with Catholicism. In fact, many prominent Tractarian thinkers, such as John Henry Newman and Ronald Knox, eventually joined the Roman Catholic Church. Good .
