Description: Zanesville, OH, R. & A. Lippitt, 1836. Leather. 504p. A hardcover book bound in full brown leather. Boards rubbed, corners slightly bent, and head of spine chipped. Foxing and occasional small stains inside, but text remains easily legible. Pages 339-358 are coming loose, but still weakly attached. Scattered pencil marginalia. Binding is tight. Good condition for its age. A contemporary of Noah Webster, Lyman Cobb (1800-1864) wrote numerous school textbooks, including a bestselling spelling book. This reader contains selections by Washington Irving ("Traits of Indian Character," "Feelings Excited by a Long Voyage," and several others) and speeches and essays by various Founding Fathers and U.S. statesmen, such as Benjamin Franklin, John Quincy Adams, Martin van Buren, and Henry Clay. Good .
