Author: Gerhard Kittel Title: Theologisches Worterbuch Zum Neuen Testament, Bands I-X & Supplement
Description: Stuttgart, W. Kohlhammer, 1933. Hardcover. 13 vols; 33p supplement. Ex-library. A set of 13 large hardcover books in good reading condition with separate staplebound supplement of abbreviations. Volumes 5-8 and 10 (which is in 3 parts) have all been rebound in green buckram. The rest are in their original beige cloth. Call numbers on the spines and stamps on the foredges. Corners bumped on a few volumes. Smear-like stains on covers of volume 4 and 5. Back cover of volume 2 is bent, along with some of its pages toward the back, and volume 9 has uneven fading on the cover showing the outline of a bookend. Various library markings and stickers inside, and early owners' inscriptions on front endpaper of volume 1. Pages tanned (mostly in the margins) in volumes 4-7 and 9. Pages foxed in first few volumes, but otherwise, text is unmarked and binding tight across the set. The supplement has a taped-over spine and tanned pages, plus the usual library markings, but is otherwise clean and tight. Good, sturdy condition for reading and research. 10 volumes bound as 13 books --- a complete set. This is the best-known work of Lutheran biblical theologian Gerhard Kittel (1888-1948), whose work has long been controversial due to its apparent antisemitism and alleged Nazi sympathy. Text is in German; publication dates span 1933-1979. Each volume measures about 12.25" x 9. Fair .
