A set of four hardcover books bound in full black leather with gilt decorations on the boards and spines, marbled endpapers, gilt foredges, 5 raised bands on each spine, and gilt dentelles. Covers chafed, but gilt designs remain mostly unmared. Old seminary stickers on the spines, bookplates inside front covers, and also a few stamps on the endpapers.Small hole worn in volume 1's front free endpaper. Early owner's notations on blank endpapers. Pages uniformly age-toned and lightly foxed, but text otherwise unmarked. Binding tight across the set. The complete three-volume work, bound as four books (volume 2 has been divided into two parts), with text in French. Luis du Pont (1554-1624) was a Spanish Jesuit mystical theologian. This copy belonged to Archbishop John B. Purcell of Cincinnati (1800-1883), whose signature is on each volume's title page. Good .
