A set of two hardcover books bound in full brown leather with marbled endpapers and gilt designs on the spines. Edges and surfaces scuffed, and spines visibly chafed. Old convent labels inside front covers. Occasional discoloration inside where small flowers and leaves were pressed. Pages foxed, but text otherwise clean, and binding tight in both volumes. A guide to botany in three parts, complete in two volumes. Illustrated with 2 folding black and white plates and 62 color plates by Pierre Jean Francois Turpin. Text is in French. This copy belonged to Archbishop John B. Purcell of Cincinnati (1800-1883), whose signature is on the title page of the second volume. Good .
